Our Story

Kathleen has been a critical care nurse for over 40 years and a Clinical Nurse Specialist for 30 of those years. She assists nurses and organizations in achieving patient driven outcomes through knowledge, process change and skill development. She designs creative strategies and practical frameworks for integrating evidence-based practices into nurses' and multidisciplinary teams’ workflow to innovate care and impact patient outcomes.

Kathleen is the inventor of the Vollman Prone Positioner that was on the market from 1997-2011, making it easy and safe for turning critically ill patients prone. Kathleen’s knowledge base is expansive. She has presented, published and consulted nationally and international on acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), prone positioning, sepsis early recognition and management, early mobility, reducing health care acquired infections and pressure injuries, nursing professional development, patient safety and work culture.

Dr. Joyce Black is a Professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. She has taught undergraduate students basic concepts, medical surgical nursing and ICU nursing. She teaches senior level nursing students in intensive care nursing, teaches advanced pathophysiology and supervises research activities of graduate students.

Dr. Black has received awards from UNMC and the College for her teaching. Her research areas of interest are in wound healing, specifically in pressure injuries. Dr. Black's dissertation examined the patient and wound factors that contributed to the healing or non-healing of diabetics with pressure injuries. She is certified in wound healing, plastic surgical nursing and is a Fellow in the American Professional Wound Care Association. Dr. Black is a past President and the current President of the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel and chairman of the NPIAP's task force to redefine pressure ulcer staging. Dr. Black has received many awards for her work in pressure injury, from UNMC and the College for her teaching and most recently the Kosiak award from NPIAP for her work in deep tissue pressure injury.

Natalie Correll-Yoder is the clinical nurse specialist for critical care services at NorthBay Healthcare. She obtained her Associates Degree and BSN from Mount. St. Mary’s College and her Master's in Nursing with an emphasis in cardiopulmonary nursing from UCLA.

Natalie has extensive experience in the field of critical care nursing, which includes expertise in Hemodynamic Monitoring, Cardiac Surgery, CRRT, Therapeutic Temperature Management, Ethics and Moral Distress, and Healthy Work Environment. She works closely with Atlas Lift Tech Mobility Technicians at NorthBay to improve patient and caregiver outcomes.

She has published original articles in AACN news and presented numerous topics at AACN’s National Teaching Institute. She is nationally certified as a CCRN and CCN. Has served on the AACN National Board of Directors and is the co-founder of the Napa Valley AACN Chapter.

Danielle has been a registered nurse for 17 years with a background in critical care. In the last decade, she was worked in a variety of leadership roles, including director of the Safe Patient Handling and Mobility program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She is presently the Chief Nurse Executive of Ventura County Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital, a public hospital system in southern California. She recently completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice, in which she implemented an early mobility program in a small community hospital intensive care unit. She is passionate about mobility and providing high-quality, cost-effective patient care. In her personal time, she enjoys traveling and being with her three teenagers and husband, as well as keeping herself active biking and running.
