"What systems or training approaches make the biggest difference in keeping both patients and staff safe during movement or transfers?"
Huber: "A comprehensive safe patient handling and mobility (SPHM) program is the evidence-based approach to reducing risk for both patients and staff. Manual lifting and repositioning remain hazardous, with injuries most often linked to lifting, transferring, or repositioning patients. Successful programs include a dedicated program manager, trained mobility technicians, engineering controls, and specialized lift equipment to ensure safe patient handling. When these elements are consistently applied, both staff and patient injury rates decline."
